Is is possible to render a xamarin form view outwith the forms navigation framework?

I was hoping there would be a way to make use of the xamarin forms native renderers to render a visual tree created with xamarin forms elements and inject these into a native view. It seems this is not the case? It would appear rendering is tightly coupled to the full xamarin forms framework? Id like to make use of xamarin forms for dynamic rendering within a native app. I don't think I'm the only one?! Why is forms so locked down? Why is the rendering engine not a discrete component that can be used independently of the full framework? Why? Why? Thanks
