Does the portable Xamarin.Microsoft.Band package work, or is it a case of going back to native vers?

I know it's not that important now that Microsoft appear to have killed off the (really good, but not particularly long-lasting) Microsoft Band, but I'm curious to know if anybody has the portable NuGet package (Xamarin.Microsoft.Band) working reliably across platforms? The last time I coded for Microsoft Band (before the much better 2nd version appeared) I used the native NuGet package (Xamarin.Microsoft.Band.Native) which worked a treat. I coded some stuff up yesterday using the portable version, and whilst most of it works from my Windows 10 phone, it's really not doing much on either my iPhone or Android phone. Does anybody have the portable version working? If not, I'll switch back to the native version.
